Harrison was established in 1696. The town is named after John Harrison who was gifted the town by the King who owed Mr. Harrison a debt. It is unknown the nature of the debt owed to Harrison but the King granted Harrison the privilege to own any town in Westchester that he would like to live in.

West Harrison was the site of The Battle of White Plains during the Revolutionary War where General Washington established his army’s position to attack the British soldiers. The British surprised Washington and attacked from his flank (behind) forcing Washington and his troops to retreat. There were numerous casualties on both sides.

Harrison was incorporated into a town in 1788. Harrison remained a small town despite the Industrial Revolution and the growth of numerous factories being built in surrounding towns such as White Plains and Portchester.
