HIP Health Plans Top Competitors
Way back in the 1950’s and 60’s anyone who was cool was called “Hip.” When I was growing up, my father was always telling me that I need to be cool or get “hip.” But he was the furthest thing from being “hip.” He was the guy wearing the black shoes and black socks with his light blue shorts in the summertime. I loved they guy but “hip” he was not. This blog post is not about my father being “hip,” it’s about the health insurance company called HIP.
During the year I speak with hundreds of business owners seeking advice on a good health plan for their company and whenever I mention HIP, I get groans and moans from most people I speak with.
It seems that HIP had a bad reputation years ago. And anyone who has been around for awhile, remembers that HIP was known for their HIP Health Centers where members of their insurance program were forced to go to these centers for medical treatment. From what people tell me, many have bad memories of sitting in these crowded centers waiting to see a doctor or waiting to get treatment.
Well it seems that HIP has come a long way over the years and now they have now become one of the top rated health insurers according to the NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance). According to their survey, HIP HMO and POS plans ranked higher nationally than all the other ‘brand name’ insures like, Aetna, Empire, Oxford and Cigna.
The rankings were evaluated from more than 700 health plans nationwide and based on clinical performance and customer satisfaction of their health plan.
So maybe the next time you are searching for a good health plan for your company, you might want to get “HIP” – the insurance company.
